Are we Color blind or just Color foolish?

Before you read this post you should grab anyone you know that is not white so they can read this post too. After you read it, share this post with every white person you know.

Morgan Freeman did an interview with Chris Wallace of 60 Minutes fame not too long ago. Chris asked Morgan if he liked Black History Month. Morgan’s reply shocked Chris.

Now for those of you who don’t know, Morgan Freeman, an A List actor is black or “African-American” and Chris Wallace an A List television news man is white. (Why is there no such thing as a “White-American?)

Morgan asked Chris as part of his response to the question, if Chris wanted to have a White History month. Chris was visibly and verbally taken aback by this and at first did not seem to answer. The answer that finally came out of his mouth was no.

No doubt Chris thought that he and other liberals were doing blacks in this country a favor by giving us a whole month to ourselves for celebration of history.

This was evidenced by a “conversation” I had with a white woman on Facebook. She said we, blacks, should stop whining and crying about it because we had a month all to ourselves.

My point is this. Why do we have a month? Simply to placate us? The answer to that is a big fat YES. Many blacks today are becoming increasingly annoyed with Black History Month. It basically is saying our history is separate and not equal to the rest of American and world history.

Blacks helped to build this nation as much as any other ethnic peoples. Why is it then we should accept the fact that black history is not really taught the rest of the year. Forget the fact that black history month is also relegated to the shortest month of the year.

Yet blacks are supposed to be happy with this. Whatever happened to just plain American History. Are blacks not a part of the American experience? Yes we are. We are a huge part.

Chris Wallace asked Morgan about racism. He asked how would we deal with racism if we did not talk about race and color. Morgan replied simply “stop talking about it.”

I agree with Morgan. I am not a black-American. I am a human male and an American. Period. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr said he foresaw a day when a man was judged solely by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.

We should do away with black history month and all those other ethnic special awards you see on TV as well. We should have a long month of American History celebration. We should stop saying I am a black man or a white man or an Latino man or anything else that would delineate our “race” for we are all of the same race. The Human Race.

Rod is nothing more than an Uncle Tom Black Man

On my show, I often hear people tell me that I am a racist. Well they say that because they don’t read my liner notes or website because when I tell them I am black so by Liberal standards I cannot be racist they then switch and call me an Uncle Tom.

They just don’t understand who I am or where I am coming from and why I think, feel and believe what I do.

Other people hear me or read my blog or articles or website and they claim they just can’t figure me out. They too just can’t figure out why I think, feel and believe what I do.

I blame myself for all the confusion, such as it is, for those poor folks. So I asked myself if someone wanted to “figure me out” what is it that I do believe? What makes me tick?

There also seem to be more than a few who think, feel and believe as I do that just can’t figure me out.

So who am I and what do I believe in my core? What makes Rod Eccles tick? Why do I jump out of bed every morning and prepare a talk show that so many don’t seem to understand or get?

First let me say, all of those who don’t “get” me look at the color of my skin first. And with that, their minds cannot compute. Simply put, even the most conservative of people are trapped by recent stereotypes of black people and other people of color.

First and foremost, I am a Human Being…a child of God. That makes me exactly like ever one of the 6.5 billion people on the planet. I love, feel, get angry, experience joy and all the rest that everyone else does.

Secondly, I am NOT my skin color. I am an American, born and raised. My skin color doesn’t even begin to tell folks who I am. Sure I have experienced racism, hate, miss placed trust, etc. I have lived it. I have even felt the pain and the anger that comes with it. (Not something I’m proud of, by the way.)

However, I am not just a black man. I also have other ethnic backgrounds running through my veins. Those include Native American (Cherokee and Osage to be exact) French, some Irish/Scotch (not sure exactly if it is Scotch by way of Ireland or just plain Irish) some Spanish and probably a few others that I will find along the way as I research my family history.

People often say I don’t look black even though my skin tone would say otherwise. What they really mean is I don’t look African. I often hear that I look Dominican or Puerto Rican or Cuban but I don’t look black.

So then if I don’t look like what I am then what and who am I? I’m a male of the human race that has feelings and cares for other humans deeply. I know each and everyone of us has so much potential.

I believe that all of us fall short of our potential and go to our graves never actually achieving our full potential. Most of us don’t even try to reach our full potential. I know for a fact that humans get lazy and often like someone else to take care of us in some form or fashion.

I believe each of us can take care of our own basic needs and that government gets in the way of that. I believe that every man has the ability within him to be more today than he was yesterday.

Government cannot provide that. Government can’t tax and spend us to that goal. It can only come from each of us. I believe that people who believe government is the answer for just about anything is wrong because it goes against the very nature of what God made us to be…what we are capable of.

I believe in the human spirit and that government can only stifle that spirit.

I also believe in judging a man by his character not by the color of his skin. I will fight with every bit of my soul, anyone who thinks otherwise and wants to force us into a mold of less than full potential policed by government.

That is who Rod Eccles is. A man who believes that God made man to be so much more than we give ourselves credit for. Plain and simple. Any questions?

You Vote even when you don’t cast a Vote

I often hear people say they don’t vote because, they say, their vote wont count or their vote wont matter. This could not be further from the truth. In fact, the bald truth is that even if you don’t cast a vote, you just voted. Let me repeat what I just said. IF YOU DON’T VOTE, YOU JUST VOTED.

How is this possible? Are you thinking that maybe someone else is voting for you, using your name? That can be a factor of course, but it is not what I am talking about.

Look at it this way, say you and 100 of your friends, co-workers and neighbors don’t vote. The next day you see who won the election and you find out that candidate A won the election by 50 votes. Now you don’t like candidate A and neither do your 100 friends, co-workers and such. By not voting, you just “voted” for candidate A because he won the election.

How could candidate B have won instead? Simple. You and your 100 friends and such go and vote for candidate B. Then you will note that your candidate will win by 50 votes.

To put it simply, if you do not vote, then you are actually voting for the winner of the election no matter who that winner is. If you do not take the time to go to the polling place and cast your vote, it is the same as actually voting for the winner of the election even if you don’t like the winner at all.

So in reality (as well as in theory) every single vote counts, yours included. You actually vote one way or the other even if you don’t take yourself to the legal polling place and pull the lever or write a check mark on a ballot.

Millions of Americans did not vote in the last presidential elections. So by not voting they actually voted for Barack Obama. Like him or not, that is who they voted for by not actually casting their vote.

Imagine if all those who did not vote actually went to their polling place and actually voted. There could have been a different winner. Yes, John McCain could have won the election instead. But even if a person likes John McCain but did not vote, they actually voted for Barack Obama. You can see how this works for any election.

Look, many people around the globe wish they only had the chance to vote for their political leaders. In fact many more around the globe actually risk their very lives to vote. Its that important and they understand that if they do not vote, it is the same as voting for the winner even if the winner is a dangerous tyrant.

So on election day, skip the gym. Don’t work late at work. Eat dinner a little bit later in the evening. Do what ever you need to do to take 30 minutes out of your day to do something far more responsible and important. Vote. It only happens at MOST once per year. So what is 30 minutes in an entire year? Its nothing.

So do what all GOOD and RESPONSIBLE Americans do. Excersise your right to vote and truly make your voice heard. Otherwise you are silent and the winner may not be someone who cares about what you care about.

Freedom – From Whence It Comes

Being one of my highest priorities in life, one of the things I cherish the most, I use the Fourth of July/Independence Day and Election Day, here in the United States where I live, every year, to “formally” discuss freedom, where it *really* comes from, and how it’s maintained with my son, who’s now twelve years old, correcting the misinformation he’s taught in school and filling in the parts they leave out.

In light of recent events here, I’d like to share with you the gist of what I’ve taught my son on the subject, ever since he was old enough to understand…

Here it is:

Although there are those who’d like to have you believe otherwise, the “founding document” of the United States of America is the “Declaration of Independence”, written primarily by Thomas Jefferson in 1776.

In part it reads:

“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them…”

Notice the use of “Laws of Nature” and “Nature’s God” here…

Interesting. :-)

It continues:

“… a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed…”

Granted by their very birth…

“… by their Creator…”

God…

“… with certain unalienable…”

Though I can’t pronounce it…

That means impossible to take away…

“… Rights, that among these…”

But not limited to…

“… are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

And…

“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, – That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

Now…

If you’ve ever wondered why there’s such an effort to take the teaching of the “Declaration of Independence” out of the public schools here in the United States (a number of school systems here already ban its teaching) or why there’s such an effort, not just here, but worldwide, to remove “God” from the picture, there you have it.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, “freedom”, are birthrights from God, *NOT* privileges granted by government.

Governments are formed by “the people” solely for the purpose of protecting those rights and when they become destructive of that end “the people” have the *God-given* right to alter or abolish it and replace it with a new one.

Simply put (and in the “early days” this is exactly how I put it to my son)…

God outranks King (government)!

This scares the living daylights out of those who have the insidious desire for power over other people.

Now…

After “the people” of the United States won their independence from England, a constitution was written to form the new government that began with these words:

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Therein, in three little words, “we the people”, is what makes the United States different (not “better than”, mind you, just different) than just about every other nation on earth.

We believe, or at least some of us do, that our rights inherently come from God and “we the people” formed a government to protect those rights. In other words, government is the “servant”, *NOT* the “master”.

I couldn’t possibly explain this difference any better than the late Ronald Reagan, former president of the United States, the man to whom I owe my understanding of this simple concept:

Whence comes freedom?

It comes from God and what God giveth, no man or woman can taketh away…

The day health care in the USA died

September 23, 2010 is the start of the overreaching Obamcare fiasco. Now to be fair, many of the things that take effect today are not really bad on the surface. In fact some can be a good thing for people who are actually paying for their insurance.

Remember, however, that you are paying for insurance. Insurance is insurance is insurance be it for your home your car or your health or for anything else you wish to protect yourself from a financial loss.

Health insurance is no different. It is not Health Care. That is what many people don’t understand. Your medical doctor is not a part of your health insurance. But your medical doctor is a part of your health care. Although the two go hand in hand they are totally separate.

Lets put it this way, trying to combine health care and health insurance would be like combining your car insurance with your car dealer and car manufacturer. It would not be a good idea and we know why. Mainly because it would not work. Each part of the auto industry may have a lot in common, for sure, but they are totally separate and have significant differences.

The car manufacturer makes the car you want to buy. The car dealer sells you the car you want to buy. The car insurer protects you from a financial loss involving the car you just bought. But your car dealer is in no way involved with your car insurer.

With health care and health insurance, the Obama administration would have you believe that the two are the same. There are small and few exceptions in cases where the insurer is actually a health clinic. One of the new provisions of the law is that you will get “free” preventative check ups.

Free is such a misleading term. True, you will not have to pay and out of pocket co-payment, usually $10 to $25 dollars. (I don’t know anyone who has health insurance that cannot afford that kind of co-payment.) But understand this is not free. You will be paying for this service in the form of higher premiums. Yes, you will pay your co-pay via your higher monthly or annual premiums. By the way, the administration acknowledges that premiums will rise because of this change. So much for free.

Lets not forget, we all know (or should know) that when you don’t pay for something directly the cost always goes up. Think about it, your new premium will defiantly be more than your $25 co-pay. So for a family of four, that would be $100 per year for preventative check ups. For most people, even a modest 1% rise in annual premiums would end up costing you more than $100 per year.

So is it really “free”? Of course not. You would not accept this kind of deal in any other area of your life so why do we feel its acceptable for health care? Because we mistakenly think that health care and health insurance are the same thing. They are not. The insurance company will still have to pay your doctor. And since there is paperwork, cost of that paperwork and time involved, your doctor will have to charge even more for that check up. Which of course, the insurance company will pass on to you in the form of higher premiums.

Many in the know, doctors, lawyers, many lawmakers, insurance people and anilist all know this type of plan will cause you to pay more in the end. It is logical and inevitable. So enjoy your “free” health care now because it will soon become too expensive for you to afford.

You may read this and think I am blowing smoke, but I tell you to look at the nation we modeled our new system after, England. They have tried this centralized, “free” system and found that it not only does not deliver better quality (indeed they learned it delivered rationing and lower quality) but they also found it got too expensive. So expensive in fact that the British are now trying to return at least some of their system back to the private sector and decentralize it. Similar things are happening and have happened in France, Germany, Sweden and other socialized medicine nations.

And yes our dear friends to our north, Canada, often sees is citizens planning “medical vacations” in the United States in order to obtain medical care they cannot afford or even get in their own country. Of course this may change as more and more of the Obamacare law is implemented.

The question is, when things get bad here, and they will if this law is not repealed, where will you go on a medical vacation to get the care you want or need? Something to think about. Still think “free” is the way to go? I didn’t think so.

Political Science or Political Religion?

On occassion I come across something that makes so much sense that I have to talk about it. The Southern Avenger, in the video below, makes so much logical sense that it is hard to disagree with him on anything.

However, he does get a few facts wrong about the Iraq war and the War on Terror but he nails it on the “religionizing” of political and social issues. Especially when it comes to Global Warming.

The idea that being a Conservative or a Liberal should thus dictate what you believe should not even enter a thoughtful humans mind. But all to often, we subjugate ourselves to what we believe instead of what the data of the day reveals.

The SA makes a case that so-called science once told us, and was taught in school, that blacks were biologically inferior to whites and that homosexuals were mentally ill and could be “fixed” with phyciatric treatment and drugs.

Of course those are not the only examples. We were fed a steady diet of ridiculous notions such as we were taught back in the day that women did not have a head for politics or were too emotional to be national leaders. I think Margaret Thatcher dispensed with the too emotional and no head for leadership nonsense.

We have also brushed aside the notion that blacks are in some way biologically inferior as evidenced by our current president. He is very intelligent, good looking and very capable as a human being. Capable as president is another matter.

We note that we have another female Secretary of State who follows a black female Secretary of State. Obviously women can get the job done, all be it the current SS is a bit under utilized but that is a good thing.

So what about this Global Warming thing? Well, what about anything that seems to have a “scientific consensus”? It usually stems from those in power wanting to keep and expand that power. Its all about control which is why when evidence comes about to contradict the current status quo, it is bashed, lambasted and even ignored. Its about control not about seeking the truth. Making blacks inferior was about controling them. Saying women didn’t have the temperment for leadership was about keeping control over them. Telling you Global Warming exsist even though scientific data says otherwise is about controling you and me and our every day lives.

True conservatives recognize control and work to thwart it at every turn. Yes sometimes we get sucked into the murky mire of desire and political ease but in the end we usually pony up and admit our mistakes and recognize it is not control that we seek but rather liberty, justice and freedom for all.

A Blue Moon

Have you ever heard the saying “Once in a Blue Moon“? I am sure you have even if you are only 10 years old. It means a chance of a lifetime or at least an opportunity that does not come around very often in a lifetime.

That is what we have going into the year of our Lord; 2010. You see, we will have a full moon on New Years Eve. Now that in and of itself is not unusual. However, it will be the SECOND full moon in the month of December. That second full moon in a single month is called a Blue Moon. And that kind of full moon happens only once in every 19 years or so.

So the next Blue Moon wont happen until the year 2028 or 2029. That is a long time. It is an opportunity to revel at the marvel that God has created for us. Think about it, you get to ring in a new year with a full moon. Also something that is rare.

This has great significance. OK, so maybe I am stretching a bit, but think about this. A Blue Moon is rare and is an opportunity you don’t want to miss. Just as in 2010 we have an opportunity to take back our country from the tryanicle and radical left wing nut jobs.

Yes, November 2010 can be a turning point for good in our nation. We can turn back the tide of hate and socialism in our nation and we can make sure it stays on that course…the course of freedom and liberty for at least a generation maybe two.

What we do in 2010 will affect and effect our kids, grandchildren and even our great-grandchildren. What we do in 2010 may even affect and effect the grandchildren of our great-grandchildren. I kid you not. We could touch 5 generations of our families by what we do in 2010. That is roughly 100 years. A century. (And for those who think the world will end in 2012, it was just a movie.)

Now before you go and say 100 years is a long time and nothing we do can affect those so far in the future, look back to the year 1910. Oh, you probably were not alive in that year. Since 1910 we have had two World Wars. I am betting most of you reading this were not born until AFTER World War II.

But what happened in 1910 and 1917 and 1941 and 1945 has affected you in ways you cant even imagine right now. Not to mention a whole century has gone by in a blink of an eye. Most of us never even had the chance to meet relatives that were alive in 1910. They were dead and gone long before we were born. Yet what they did in that year affects us to this very day.

Will we sit by and let history pass us by because we didn’t think what we do in 2010 will affect those in 2110? Will we be selfish and only think of what we want today? Will we not care what our posterity will have to live through simply because we wont be alive to witness? I hope not.

As you look back on the year that was 2009, think about all the missed opportunities you had. Think about how different your life might have been if you had but had the guts to take hold of one of those opportunities. Would you be wealthier, smarter, better off? Probably so.

Now look ahead. Do you really want to sit and contemplate about all the missed opportunities you had in 2010? Do you really just want to sit through another year of words and speeches? I hope not.

Take advantage while you still can. You may not have the opportunity tho change America again for another generation…another Blue Moon.

Happy New Year. Now lets go make history. Lets go and Clean House.

The reason for the season

Up here in New England we will enjoy a white Christmas. This is in spite of the fact that there was a two week conference on Global Warming in Copenhagen. I find it very humorous that during this conference, the city got near record cold temperatures and near record snow fall and that very same city will have a white Christmas for the first time in decades.

I also find it funny that when temperatures plummet all over the planet, Global Warming popes and priest tell us that if it gets cold, its because of the same global warming that caused temps to rise back in the 90′s.

But I digress. This is the time of year that is not about global warming, global cooling, man-made global climate change or whatever else the anti mankind religious zealots want to call the natural flow of the planets climate change.

This is the time of year we celebrate the greatest humanitarian, economist, environmentalist and human lover the world has ever seen. It is a time we stop to celebrate a birth that changed man. Indeed, this was a birth that actually split time in two.

But instead of remembering and celebrating such a birth, we run around trying to find and buy the latest fad, electronic, card or anything else our limited financial budgets can handle in order to give it to someone we say we love and care about. We also know that those gifts will most likely be broken, thrown away or exchanged within the first 2 months of the new year, lost and forgotten in time and in memory.

Yes it is cool to see a tree, be it real or artificial, propped up with loads of wrapped gifts. Sure it is great fun to run around town in your car, van or even SUV to look at the dazzling if not dizzying display of electric candles adorning house after house.

It is great fun to run about with an extra spring in our step because it is expected that everyone be more jolly and friendly at this time of year and to eat more than we should especially more of the things we should not eat at all.

But then comes the new year and we feel a sense of loss. We crash and feel depressed often blaming it on the weather noticing how dead and dreary the landscape looks. We exit our over heated buildings into the cold cursing and condeming the fact that global warming has not made our small corner of the world a tropical paradise.

The euphoria that we felt before December 25 is replaced by shock and dismay come January 25 as the credit card bills arrive in the mail. We often say with a hint of denial in our voices, “I didn’t spend that much.”

The shock and realization of our spending transgressions is very apparent and we lament the fact that we have less than a year to do it all over again.

But some of us do carry that joy that is this holiday season in our hearts all year long. Although we are few in number, we can and due have a huge impact on those around us. How is this possible in a world of fast, faster and fastest?

We slow down enough to know that this time of year is not about the tree, the lights, the spectacle, the snow, the gifts under the tree or anything else that tradition has now taught us.

We slow down and know that the greatest gift of all was not born on this day, but is celebrated non the less on this day.

The greatest gift every single human this planet has ever hosted or ever will support in life was a tiny baby born over 2000 years ago.

The reason for the season is a birthday. The birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Son of Man and more importantly, the Son of God.

Thank you God for this awesome gift.

And, Happy birthday Jesus.

When the Heart is broken due to do gooders

I often get accused of being a cold and hard s.o.b. Does that really bother me? No, not at all. Am I really a cold hard s.o.b.? Depends on who you ask but I like to think that I am far more compassionate than the Liberal that says I am cold and hard.

How is that? Well for one, I don’t go around giving people a fish and then expect them to learn how to fish all on their own after I leave. That is what a Liberal does.

To be fair, Liberals have good intentions. The problem is they don’t think about things logically nor do they think about what their actions will do in the long run.

So, yes it is very heart warming to give a man a fish today. You know he will eat today. You know he will feel warm and fuzzy today. The Liberal will feel warm and fuzzy as well. But then the Liberal goes away the next day. The man still has a need to eat but the Liberal does not see nor does the Liberal meet that need.

They failed to give the man the fish. So the man comes back to where the Liberal was looking for his daily fish. But the Liberal is not there. So the man does not know what to do so he goes hungry for that day.

I, on the other hand, would love to give that man a fish to fill his belly today. But I think of something better. I teach that man to fish. I go with him and help him land his first fish. That night we both dine and are happy and full and warm and fuzzy all over.

The next day when I leave, the man does not go to the corner looking for a fish to be given to him so he can eat that day. He heads to the lake and puts his line in the water and catches his dinner. He dines again that night and is full and feels warm and fuzzy all over. Meanwhile across town, the man whom the Liberal fed yesterday and did not teach to feed himself is cold, hungry and alone.

I ask you who then is the cold, hard s.o.b.? Not I, for I have eliminated hunger in one man. The Liberal has perpetuated that hunger in another. To me that is cruel and unusual punishment.

A Crash is not always a Crash

There has been a lot of coverage lately about the Tiger Woods accident and the so-called “gatecrashers” or “party crashers”. Tareq and Michaele Salahi did what was previously thought impossible and unthinkable. They “crashed” a White House party.

Or did they?

Now why is this even such news? Why is there so much talk about it? Why do you even have some Senators and Representatives calling for criminal charges?

Look at it this way. No matter what you feel about Barack Obama…no matter if you agree or disagree with his politics and policies, that is not the issue.

The issue was the unauthorized access to the Office of the President of the United States of America. This was a major security breach at best. And if the Salahi were bent on doing some damage, they could of easily carried out such an attack on the President, his guest and the White House itself.

The Secret Service had a major lapse in security and I don’t care who you are, you cannot blame the Salahi’s for this. All they did was show up.

So what if they lied. Did they have the credentials and clearances to enter the party? From what everyone involved is saying, they did not. So even if the couple said they had an invite, if there name was not on the list and they had no written invitation then how did they get in?

To blame the Salahi’s is ignorant at best and just plain passing the buck at worst. The lapse was on the Secret Service and the White House staff.

The other issue is, the Salahi’s have been spotted in a picture with then Senator Barack Obama back in 2005 leading some to think that the president knew the Salahi’s if even in passing. In other words, they were not total strangers to the president.

If this is true, and by the pictures it is true, then it it possible that some White House staffer recognized the couple and gave them the green light to enter the party.

In any event, this was a breakdown of communication and security and it put the Office of the Presidency at risk which is inexcusable. It also showed that if someone really wants to get at our president, that it is totally possible, which is unacceptable.

If the White House were smart, they would just say that the president knows the couple from events when he was a senator and that indeed were or should have been invited. Then quietly investigated how the breach of security happened and taken care of it.

Instead, we have opened a Pandora’s box and now the whole world knows just how vulnerable our leader actually is.

Then again, this could be a stern warning to our president that his enemies be they domestic or foreign, are sending a message, “Barack we can get at you anytime we want.”

Now that indeed, is a sobering thought.
